There's a place for me.

Have you ever been at a place in your life where you just feel like you don’t fit? You know that square peg in a round hole concept? Many people I work with, and even myself at times, voice this exact feeling. We all go through phases of feeling disconnected or out of place.

My children attend a Lutheran School in Oviedo, and recently my daughters have come home singing “Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong Worship. Now if you have children in your home you know how often they can repeat themselves, over and over. This song is apparently on repeat in my girls’ heads! And I have recently found myself hanging on to a couple of lines of this song:

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am
In my Father’s house
There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God
Yes I am

I am Chosen
Not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me
Not against me
I am who You say I am

For me, these words reassure me that there is a place for me, that there is a plan in place. When I get to moments where I feel I am wondering, almost like my feet do not know where to step next, I need the reassurance of knowing that there is a bigger picture.

These words also remind me that God is for me. There are certainly moments when that does not feel true. I am sure you have felt that. But I am confident that even in the struggles, God is for me, not against me. Sometimes I have to remind my brain of this, because too often I can ride the waves of emotion and forget what I know to be true.

Take some time today to remind your brain that there is a place for you, that God is not against you and that sometimes we can only see and experience a small piece of His overall greater plan. That is why we need to rest in the assurance that we are children of God.

I am who You say I am.
