I need some space.

Schedules are tight. Goals are set, and we have things to accomplish this year. I am going to lose 30lbs. I am going to start my day with devotions. I am going to clean all the sweets out of my pantry and eat more veggies. I am going to read a new book every month. I am taking a break from social media.

These are all great goals and things that we really should take steps towards doing. But what happens when we mess up? What happens when we skip a day on working towards our goals? Do you get stuck? Do you regret the goals that you have set?

Many times, I have told myself that I am going to start a new habit, work towards a new goal. Then comes that one morning that I sleep in, that I am not motivated. After that one missed morning, it is so much harder to get back on track - mostly because I am beating myself up for that one bad day.

We set ourselves up for failure when we don’t give ourselves the space to mess up. When we don’t allow bad days or “cheat days.” Making healthy changes and starting new habits doesn’t come without some bumps in the road. It’s how you handle those bumps, or even plan for them, that will make you successful in the long run. We must give ourselves space for grace.

If you have committed to something new for 2020, make sure you have also committed to giving yourself grace. It is often our failures that fuel our motivation, that is if we can see them as energy boosters instead of motivation stealers.

Give yourself space for grace and watch how you grow!
