Steph Wernberg, LMHC

Steph Wernberg, LMHC

Steph is a Licensed Mental Health Counseling who completed her education at Northwestern University. She was born and raised in South Africa and offers services in both English and Afrikaans. She uses an integrative approach combining family systems, psychodynamic, and person-centered perspectives to meet the unique needs of her clients. Steph has experience working with children, teens, adults, older adults, couples, and groups. She is the lead at The Village, providing free mental health support to members and families of people in the LGBTQ+ community.

She recognizes the importance of intersectionality in the therapeutic process, valuing the unique experiences that shape each individual. By exploring the diverse layers of identity, Steph fosters an inclusive space where every aspect of your being is acknowledged and respected. Recognizing the profound honor of exploring client narratives, she understands the importance of being entrusted with the lived experiences of her clients. 

Steph's therapeutic approach focuses on the holistic well-being of her clients. She understands the desire to be heard, seen, understood, and accepted. Balancing empathy with accountability, she creates an environment that nurtures growth and self-discovery. Steph focuses on many areas, including couple and marriage therapy, trauma treatment, self-compassion, and empowerment. Her practice extends to racial, ethnic, and sexual identity, with a particular emphasis on the nuances of multicultural experiences. Steph also addresses attachment and connection, grief and loss, family and interpersonal relationships, family of origin concerns, women's issues, postpartum concerns, self-acceptance, self-worth, and emotional regulation.

In her downtime, Steph likes to spend time in nature, read books, watch her favorite TV shows, or go on adventures with her husband and son.
